Learn How to Spot a Mate in 1: Pin Tactic
This puzzle is a classic middlegame mating net built around king safety and a pinned defender. White’s pieces coordinate on the kingside, and the black king has very limited escape squares because the pawn shield is weakened. The key idea is that a pinned piece can’t perform its normal defensive job, so a direct attack on the king becomes decisive. In classical chess, these patterns often appear when active pieces line up on open lines toward the enemy king.
