Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Queenside Attack
This middlegame puzzle is a classic example of a direct mating net built around king safety and loose queenside pawns. White’s position looks active, but the king is exposed to a sudden tactical finish on the edge of the board. The key idea is that a seemingly ordinary capture can also be a checkmate when the enemy king has no flight squares and the surrounding pieces cannot interpose. In classical chess, these one-move finishes often come from overextended pawns and poor coordination.
