Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Kingside Attack
This puzzle is a classic middlegame mating net: one side’s pieces are coordinated against the enemy king, and the final blow comes from a direct queen move on the kingside. The key idea is that king safety outweighs material when the opponent’s back rank and escape squares are stripped away. Even if you are materially behind or ahead, a forcing checkmate can decide the game immediately. In classical chess, these patterns often appear after a fianchettoed king position is weakened.
