Learn How to Win Material: Discovered Attack
This middlegame puzzle shows a classic discovered attack idea: one piece moves with tempo, opening a line for another attacker and creating a tactical refutation. The position is especially instructive because Black’s queen is active, but that activity also leaves key pieces and squares vulnerable. White can exploit the alignment of pieces to win material rather than chase a direct mate. In classical chess, these patterns often decide games by forcing the opponent’s queen or rook into an overloaded defensive role.
