Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Pin Tactic
This middlegame puzzle comes from the Scotch Game Horwitz Attack and shows how a pinned piece can hide a direct mating idea. White’s pieces are active, the black king is exposed in the center, and the position contains multiple tactical motifs at once: pin, skewer, and discovered attack. When a king lacks safe flight squares, even a single forcing move can end the game immediately. The key is to look for checks that also exploit piece alignment and loose defenders.
