Learn How to Spot a Mate in 2: Kingside Attack
This puzzle shows a classic kingside attack where active pieces overwhelm the enemy king. White’s rook and queen coordinate with a knight on a powerful outpost to create a mating net around the h-file and g-file. The key idea is not material, but king safety: once the defender is dragged away, the remaining pieces cannot cover the critical squares. In classical chess, these patterns often appear when the opponent’s king is boxed in and the attacking pieces are already ideally placed.
