Learn How to Win Material: Fork Tactic
This middlegame puzzle is a classic example of using active piece placement to win material through a forcing tactical sequence. White’s rook becomes the key attacking piece because it can enter the position with tempo, checking the king while also targeting an undefended bishop. That combination of check and simultaneous pressure is what makes fork tactics so powerful in classical chess: the opponent’s king is forced to respond, and the overloaded piece cannot be saved.
