Regaining Material With Intermediate Moves Puzzle: Use Intermezzo — Win
An intermezzo, or zwischenzug, is an intermediate move played before the obvious recapture or capture. In this position, Black must resist the urge to take the loose bishop at once. The queen can first improve its position while creating a forcing threat, making White respond to the new danger. That extra tempo matters because Black’s rook is already active on the second rank, attacking a bishop and pressuring a pinned pawn. The tactic converts activity into material recovery.
