Quiet Move Puzzle (Rated 1273): Save a Rook — Defense
This chess endgame tests your ability to recognize an undefended rook under attack and respond with active defense. Simply retreating may preserve material but surrender important squares and allow the opponent’s centralized king to improve. The stronger idea is to combine safety with activity: reposition the rook so it remains protected while restricting the enemy king and supporting counterplay. In rook endgames, a defensive move can also be a positional resource that changes the balance of the entire position.
