Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Kingside Attack
This puzzle is a classic middlegame mating pattern: the attacking queen lands on the enemy king’s shelter and the position ends immediately. The key idea is that the black king’s pawn shield is weakened, while the queen and bishop coordinate to exploit the g7 square. Even though Black has extra material, king safety overrides everything. In tactical chess, a direct mate can appear when a pinned defender and loose back-line pieces leave the king with no escape squares.
