Learn How to Spot a Kingside Attack: Mate in 2
This puzzle is a classic Philidor Defense attacking pattern where king safety outweighs material. Black’s pieces are coordinated around the white king, and the key idea is to use a forcing sacrifice to open lines on the kingside. In classical chess, these positions often look balanced at first, but active pieces and a vulnerable king create a decisive tactical edge. The attack works because the defender’s king has limited escape squares and the supporting pieces are already ideally placed.
