Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Nimzowitsch Defense
This puzzle comes from the Nimzowitsch Defense and shows how quickly development and king safety can decide a game in classical chess. White’s pieces are active, Black’s king is still stuck in the center, and the position contains a direct mating net. The key idea is to notice when a seemingly ordinary knight jump becomes decisive because it attacks the king while also coordinating with other pieces. In sharp middlegame positions, one active piece can be enough to end the game immediately.
