Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Kingside Attack
This middlegame puzzle is a pure mating pattern: one side’s king safety is so compromised that a direct checkmate is available immediately. The key idea is to recognize when the enemy king has no flight squares, no useful interpositions, and no way to capture the attacking queen safely. In classical chess, these motifs often appear after a piece has been overextended or a defensive piece has become trapped, leaving the king exposed to a forcing finish.
