Learn How to Deflect the King: Mate in 2
This middlegame puzzle is a classic example of deflection: White uses a forcing queen move to drag the black king onto a vulnerable square, then finishes with a direct mating attack. The position is already loaded with tactical pressure around the black king, especially on the h-file and g-file, while Black’s pieces are too far away to help. In classical chess, these short combinations often appear when king safety is weakened and one defender can be removed from the defense.
