Learn How to Use an Intermezzo: Middlegame Tactics
This puzzle is a classic intermezzo in the middlegame: instead of recapturing or simplifying immediately, the stronger side inserts a forcing check that changes the move order. The key idea is to exploit king safety and tactical overload at the same time. White’s pieces look active, but the king is vulnerable to a direct forcing sequence. In classical chess, these in-between moves often win material because the opponent cannot respond in the most natural way.
