Learn How to Use Intermezzo: Queen's Gambit Declined
This puzzle shows a classic opening tactic in the Queen's Gambit Declined: a forcing check creates a tactical pause, or intermezzo, that changes the whole position. Instead of recapturing immediately, Black uses the tempo to improve the attack and exploit a pin on the white knight. The key idea is that in the middlegame, a single forcing move can turn a small lead in development into a decisive advantage, especially when the enemy king is still in the center.
