Learn How to Mate in 1: Horwitz Defense Tactic
This middlegame puzzle shows how a direct kingside attack can end the game immediately when the enemy king’s shelter is loose. White’s queen is ideally placed to exploit the dark squares around Black’s king, while the rook on the h-file adds pressure and limits escape squares. Even though Black has extra material, king safety overrides everything when the mating net is already in place. In classical chess, these are the positions where tactical alertness matters more than counting pawns.
