Learn How to Mate in 2: French Defense Exchange
This middlegame puzzle comes from the French Defense Exchange Variation, where White’s pieces are aimed directly at the enemy king. The key idea is king safety: when the black king’s shelter is weakened, a queen and bishop can coordinate to create a mating net. Even if material is not equal, active pieces and open lines can outweigh the extra bishop. The position rewards forcing play, because the king has very few safe squares and every tempo matters.
