Fork Advanced Puzzle (Rated 1146): Stop Forks — Defense
A defensive move in a chess endgame can be active rather than passive. The strongest defense often checks the opposing king while creating a second threat, such as attacking an undefended passed pawn. This dual-purpose idea is especially important when material is unbalanced and one side relies on an outside passer for counterplay. By forcing the king or queen to respond, you gain time to neutralize the passer and improve your position without allowing the opponent to coordinate their pieces.
