Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Pin Tactic
This puzzle comes from the Englund Gambit and shows a classic middlegame mating pattern where a pinned piece and exposed king create a forced finish. Even though White has the material edge, Black’s active pieces and the white king’s central placement make the position tactically sharp. The key idea is to notice when a single piece can control the king’s escape squares while also exploiting a pin or discovered attack. In these positions, the best move is often the one that ends the game immediately.
