Learn How to Spot a Mate in 1: Kingside Attack
This puzzle comes from the Englund Gambit and shows a classic middlegame kingside attack where the defender’s king is left with too few safe squares. The key idea is to recognize when the enemy queen, bishop, and rook coordinate against the king’s shelter. Even if the position looks materially balanced, king safety can outweigh everything else. In classical chess, these patterns often decide the game immediately because the mating net is already fully formed.
