Desperado Puzzle (Rated 1800): Desperado — Tactical Refutation

This chess endgame is a classic desperado puzzle: a loose attacking piece has invaded near the king and can be taken only if you first notice the hidden tactical refutation. Even though White is materially ahead, the opponent’s active rook creates immediate pressure and forces a precise response. The key idea is to value the most dangerous enemy piece first, especially when it is hanging and can be removed by the king. In classical chess, this kind of practical defense often decides the game.
