Learn How to Deflect the King: Middlegame Tactic
This puzzle is a classic example of deflection in the middlegame, where the goal is to pull a key defender or the king away from an important square. White’s attack works because the black king is exposed and the dark-square weaknesses around it are hard to cover. Even though material is down, active pieces and king safety matter more than raw count here. The position rewards forcing moves, especially checks, that keep the defender tied to the king.
