Defensive Move Beginner Puzzle (Rated 1974): Defend — Quiet Move

A strong defensive move does more than answer the opponent’s immediate threat. In a sharp middlegame, it can coordinate your pieces, protect a vulnerable square, and keep a passed pawn moving toward promotion. This position combines king-zone pressure, an attacked pawn, and dangerous passed pawns on both wings. The best defense preserves your activity while neutralizing the opponent’s counterplay, allowing your own advanced pawn and active pieces to become decisive.
