Defensive Move Beginner Puzzle (Rated 1519): Defend — Defensive Move

A defensive move is not always passive. In this middlegame position, White is materially far behind and faces several immediate threats, including pressure on the rook and kingside pawns. The best practical defense uses active rook checks to seize the initiative. By forcing the exposed king to respond, White keeps the opposing pieces restricted and creates counterplay instead of allowing Black to consolidate the extra queen.
