Learn How to Deflect the Queen: Crushing Middlegame Tactic
This puzzle comes from the Alekhine Defense and shows a classic crushing middlegame idea: deflection. The key tactical point is that one powerful piece is lured onto a square where it can no longer protect the king and the rest of the position. Once that defender is pulled away, the follow-up wins material by exploiting a pinned or overloaded piece. In practical classical chess, these combinations often arise when the enemy king is still exposed and the pieces are awkwardly placed.
