Richard Rapport (Black) Puzzle: Clearance — Gain Time

A clearance tactic removes a piece or blocker from a critical line so another piece can attack with greater force. In this position, White uses rook activity and checks to overload Black’s king and coordinate attacks against restricted heavy pieces. The key idea is not simply to chase the king, but to clear access to valuable targets while preserving pressure. Clearance often works alongside skewers, pins, discovered attacks, and trapped-piece motifs, turning active piece placement into a concrete tactical advantage.
