Praggnanandhaa (White) Puzzle: Capture Defender — Mate
The removal-of-the-defender tactic occurs when a key guarding piece is captured, displaced, or overloaded, allowing a mating attack to succeed. In this position, Black’s king is exposed and White’s active rooks and bishop coordinate around the king zone. Although Black has a substantial material advantage, king safety dominates the evaluation. The attacking idea is to force the defender away from its duty, then exploit the newly opened lines and restricted escape squares with a precise checkmate sequence.
