Pia Cramling (Black) Puzzle: Mate — Rook Checkmate

A rook can deliver a decisive checkmate when it attacks along an open rank and the opposing king has no usable escape squares. In this chess endgame, both sides have dangerous passed pawns, which makes promotion seem urgent. Yet king safety takes priority: a direct rook attack can end the game before either pawn advances. The defending king is boxed in by the board edge, its own vulnerable squares, and enemy control along the seventh rank.
