Paul Leonhardt (Black) Puzzle: Zwischenzug — Checks

An intermezzo, also called a zwischenzug, is a forcing move inserted before an expected recapture. In this middlegame tactic, an apparently routine exchange tempts both sides to focus only on the pinned piece. The winning side instead finds a check that changes the move order, forcing the king to respond before the exchange can be completed. That tempo transforms a local trade into a decisive material gain and demonstrates why forcing moves deserve priority in calculation.
