Evgeny Bareev (Black) Puzzle: Mate — Mating Net
A mating net is created when active pieces restrict a king’s escape squares while forcing it to answer checks. In this position, White’s queen, rook, and bishop coordinate against the exposed black king, whose weakened pawn cover leaves critical lines vulnerable. Although Black has extra material, king safety outweighs it: forcing checks seize the initiative and leave the defender with little time to organize. The key is to value attacking geometry over material when the enemy king is short of safe squares.
