Adolf Anderssen (White) Puzzle: Skewer — Deflection

A deflection skewer combines two tactical ideas: first, force an important defender or king away from a critical square; then use the newly opened line to attack a more valuable target. In this chess endgame, the forcing capture comes with check, so Black must address the king’s safety before protecting the vulnerable piece. That tempo changes the material balance and turns White’s active rook into the key attacking unit.
