Learn How to Deflect the Defender: Tarrasch Defense
This Tarrasch Defense puzzle shows a classic opening tactic built around deflection and interference. Black uses a forcing check to pull a key white piece onto an awkward square, then exploits the resulting pin and trapped-piece geometry to win material. The position is still in the opening, but the tactical shot is already decisive because White’s king is exposed and the queen and knight are tied together. It is a good example of how development and king safety can outweigh simple material balance.
