Slav Defense Puzzle (Rated 948): Intermezzo — Win Pawns

An intermezzo, also called a zwischenzug, is a forcing move played before the obvious recapture or response. In this middlegame puzzle, Black appears to have an exposed bishop and rook while White’s queen attacks both. However, a forcing check changes the priorities completely. The check compels White to respond, allowing Black to remove a key defender and then exploit the queen’s vulnerable placement. The result is a decisive material gain despite White’s initial tactical pressure.
