Learn How to Remove the Defender: Ruy Lopez Exchange
This puzzle is a classic example of removal of the defender in the Ruy Lopez Exchange Variation. Black’s tactical idea works because White’s back rank and king safety are compromised, while a pinned piece and loose coordination make the position vulnerable to a forcing sequence. In classical chess, these motifs often appear when the queen can be traded into a favorable endgame-like simplification, but the real point is tactical: one defender is overloaded and the follow-up wins material decisively.
