Learn How to Intermezzo: Crushing Tactic
This puzzle shows a classic intermezzo idea in the Ruy Lopez Exchange Variation. Instead of recapturing or defending in the most obvious way, White uses a forcing tactical sequence to exploit the exposed black king and the loose coordination of Black’s pieces. The position is a good example of how a seemingly active bishop can become a tactical target when the opponent’s back rank and king safety are compromised. The result is a decisive material gain in a classical chess middlegame.
