Learn How to Win the Pterodactyl Defense: Crushing Long Opening
This puzzle comes from the Pterodactyl Defense and shows how a long opening can turn into a direct tactical attack. Even when material looks balanced or favorable, active pieces and king safety can outweigh everything else. Here Black uses forcing play to keep White’s king exposed while also exploiting loose coordination on the queenside. The key idea is that checks and captures can create a decisive sequence when the opponent’s pieces are overloaded and a key defender is pinned or trapped.
