Learn How to Deflect the King: Philidor Defense Tactic
This puzzle comes from the Philidor Defense and shows a classic deflection idea in the opening. White uses active piece placement and king-zone pressure to force the defender away from a key square, creating a tactical collapse around the black king and queen. Even though the material is balanced, White’s development lead and attacking coordination make the position dangerous. The lesson is that in classical chess, initiative can outweigh raw material when the enemy king is still in the center.
