Learn How to Win Material: Tactical Refutation
This puzzle shows a classic tactical refutation in the middlegame, where one side’s queen and bishop coordination creates a decisive material gain. The key idea is overload: a defender is asked to protect too many loose pieces at once, and a capture on the central queen opens the position for further wins. In the Owen Defense, active piece placement can quickly turn into a liability when the king remains exposed and the opponent’s pieces are ready to exploit pins and discovered attacks.
