Learn How to Fork: Winning Material
This puzzle shows a classic opening tactic where active queen play creates a fork-like threat against loose pieces and an exposed king. In the Nimzowitsch Defense, development and king safety can matter more than raw material, especially when one side’s pieces are still uncoordinated. White’s queen becomes highly active, forcing the defender into a narrow response and then winning material by exploiting a trapped, undefended piece. The key idea is to use tempo and pressure to convert initiative into a concrete gain.
