Learn How to Skewer: Decisive Material Gain
This puzzle comes from the Nimzowitsch Defense and shows a classic middlegame tactical idea: a short skewer that wins material. White’s queen and bishop alignment creates pressure on the queenside, while Black’s king remains uncastled and the pieces are awkwardly placed. In positions like this, the strongest move is often not a direct attack on the king, but a forcing move that improves the line-up of targets and exposes a more valuable piece behind a lesser one.
