Montevideo Defense Puzzle (Rated 1663): Win Material — Zwischenzug Tactics
This middlegame puzzle is a classic example of an intermezzo, or zwischenzug, where a forcing move changes the order of operations and turns a tactical sequence into a winning material gain. The key idea is that the opponent’s king and loose pieces create a tactical target, so the best move is not a simple recapture. Instead, the position rewards active calculation, especially when a pinned queen and an exposed king make checks and captures much stronger than they first appear.
