This puzzle comes from the Modern Defense and shows how a small tactical detail can outweigh material. White’s king is still exposed in the middlegame, and Black’s active pieces create threats against the king and loose defenders. The key idea is that a hanging piece can be exploited only if the resulting attack keeps the initiative. In classical chess, these positions often reward forcing play over slow consolidation, especially when king safety is the dominant imbalance.
