Learn How to Win Material: Discovered Attack
This puzzle shows a classic middlegame tactical refutation in the Modern Defense. White’s active pieces coordinate against Black’s king and loose kingside structure, while a key tactical motif appears: a discovered attack created by moving a piece that also gives check. The forcing sequence wins material because Black’s bishop and queen become overloaded, and the exposed king cannot comfortably defend both threats at once. In classical chess, these short combinations often decide the game immediately.
