Learn How to Use an Intermezzo: Tactical Refutation
This puzzle shows a classic middlegame intermezzo in the London System: instead of recapturing or retreating, Black inserts a forcing check that changes the tactical landscape. The key idea is to exploit the exposed white queen and the loose coordination around the center. Because White’s king is still in the middle and the queen is overextended, a forcing sequence can win material and leave White unable to keep the position together.
