Giuoco Piano Puzzle (Rated 1297): Attack — Intermezzo
An intermezzo is a forcing move played before an expected recapture or defensive response. In this middlegame puzzle, the key idea is to interrupt the opponent’s apparent tactical sequence with a check that changes the evaluation immediately. The move creates a double tactical effect: it exploits the exposed queen while using the check to control the opponent’s reply. Once the forcing sequence ends, White emerges with a decisive material advantage and a much more active position.
