Learn How to Spot a Greek Gift: Kingside Attack
This puzzle comes from the Italian Game and shows a classic kingside attack pattern often associated with the Greek Gift sacrifice. The attacking side uses a bishop sacrifice to pull the enemy king into the open, then exploits the exposed monarch with a forcing follow-up. Even when the position looks materially balanced or even favorable for the defender, tactical factors like king safety, loose pieces, and alignment on key files can override static evaluation. In classical chess, these motifs appear when development and piece activity are more important than counting pawns.
