Learn How to Spot Intermezzo: Hungarian Opening Tactic
This puzzle shows a classic opening tactic where a forcing move changes the order of threats and wins material. In the Hungarian Opening, White’s queen becomes active too early, and Black can use a forcing check to gain tempo while attacking the queen and the center at the same time. The key idea is that an intermezzo often works because the opponent’s last move created a loose piece or an exposed king, making direct punishment possible before any routine recapture.
