French Defense Exchange Variation Puzzle (Rated 918): Refute a Fork — Check!

An enemy knight that forks two of your pawns looks scary, but a fork is only dangerous when the forking piece is safe. In this middlegame position the invading knight is not actually defended. Before you scramble to save an attacked pawn, ask whether the attacker is loose. If you can meet the fork with a forcing check — a move that hits the enemy king while also eyeing the knight — you gain the tempo to eliminate the forking piece, turning a lost pawn into decisive material gain.
