Learn How to Win a Hanging Piece: Four Pawns Attack
This puzzle comes from the Alekhine Defense, Four Pawns Attack, where White has seized space and Black has overextended. The key idea is to notice when a central piece is loose and the opponent’s king is still vulnerable. In these positions, tactical shots often work because one capture opens lines, removes a defender, or exposes a pin. Even if the material count looks messy, the side with better piece coordination can win immediately by targeting a hanging piece and forcing a favorable simplification.
